Since I'm still in a oil-on-canvas mood, here's a Van Gogh I saw in Amsterdam that I strongly believe has gone overlooked. It has got the (uninspired) title of Still Life with Grapes, Pears, and Lemons; he painted this in his Parisian period when he first experimented with pointillism.
I particularly admire this piece because although the subject and the background are of similar hues, Van Gogh has managed to create a three-dimensional effect merely by outlining each of the fruits on a otherwise chaotic canvas. If I'm not mistaken, it is still presented in the frame that Van Gogh intended for the work—that the frame is also of a yellowish-brown, I think, serves to elucidate his vision for the painting.
In pointillism—just as in love and life—don't look too closely and overly scrutinize the details; you'll surely miss the bigger picture.
-FOREVER
